sorry for the many postings. Deactivating all other external software sources, removing GRASS QGIS and autoremove and then following

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGIS

trying both stable and unstable repositories, I managed to solve the problem.

Maybe this helps somebody.

Hi again,

I just installed the new karmic instead of upgrading from the previous version.

Following you directions for installing grass, I obtain on v.in.ogr:

GRASS 6.4.0RC5 (mekongUTM):~ > v.in.ogr dsn=/media/0B35-DC0F/phd/data/swat/DSF/MRCSKB/GISData/KeyMonitoringSites.shp output=test --overwrite -o -e
WARNING: Vector map already exists and will be overwritten
Over-riding projection check
WARNING: Vector map already exists and will be overwritten
WARNING: Table linked to vector map does not exist
Layer: KeyMonitoringSites
Importing map 15 features...
*** buffer overflow detected ***: v.in.ogr terminated
======= Backtrace: =========
/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__fortify_fail+0x48)[0x36ede8]
/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6[0x36de20]

/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe6)[0x2a4b56]
v.in.ogr[0x804aab1]

and it goes on with a memory map:

======= Memory map: ========

as described before.

I heard that this could be a problem of the libgdal 1.5. But it happens that I don't know where I can get libgdal 1.6

Could you help me if possible?

Hi,

I just managed to install qgis 1.3 on karmic. The problem is that I see no grass plugin on the list of qgis plugins...

Am I missing something?

Thanks
